Three Wire CBG is Jim Dimon, building 3-string cigar box guitars, Spam can Spamjos and cigar box amps in Union City, Pennsylvania. Jim is retired from Penn-Union Corp., where he was the maintenance and foundry operations manager. Now that shop-floor know-how goes into instruments made from cedar cigar boxes, Spam cans and salvaged hardware.
Every guitar starts in Jim's workshop ("World Headquarters"). He picks a box, shapes the neck from maple, cherry or wormy maple, and glues an angled scarf joint at the headstock. Then it's strung up in open G and played until it's right.
What started as a fun hobby turned into something Jim "could never have predicted". The guitars sell out at local shows, and in his words, "the places and people these old boxes have introduced me to have been incredible."
